I first read Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ at age 13. I vividly recall the feeling of being transported to another world as detailed and real as our own. I read the original Dune series every few years. Herbert’s universe is rich and mysterious. I love the compelling characters, the political complexity and cultural depth. As with many great works of literature, I gain new insights with each read.
A year later, I saw David Lynch’s ‘Dune’ (1984) in the theater. It was beautifully done and some of the visual effects were convincing for the time, but it didn’t match what I imagined. I recommend Lynch’s ‘Dune,’ but read this before you watch it. When I heard Denis Villeneuve was going to direct a new two-film ‘Dune’ adaptation, I was convinced he could do it right. So I read ‘Dune’ again and started writing about it.
I love discussing thoughts and ideas. My experience is enhanced when I learn other perspectives. I want to help fans gain further insights into Frank Herbert’s universe. I want to help fans find news, articles, ideas, art, merchandise or anything related to the Dune universe. I want to share my excitement with fans, old and new alike.
